Abstracted Navigational Actions for Improved Hypermedia Navigation and Maintenance
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper discusses the MESH framework, which proposes a fully object-oriented approach to hypermedia. Object-oriented abstractions are not only applied to the conceptual data model, but also to the navigation paradigm. This results in the concept of context-based navigation, which reduces the end user’s disorientation problem by means of dynamically generated, contextsensitive guided tours. Moreover, maintainability is greatly improved, as both nodes and links are defined as instances of abstract classes. In this way, single links and entire guided tours are anchored on type level as abstract navigational actions, which are independent of the actual link instances.

Design Patterns for Object-Oriented Hypermedia Applications
This chapter proposes design patterns for object-oriented applications enhanced with hypermedia functionality. We briefly discuss our problem: building a software architecture for seamlessly extending object-oriented applications with hypermedia interface and navigational styles. Two new design patterns named ‘Navigation Strategy’ and ‘Navigation Observer’ are presented, showing how they are us...
متن کاملSpecifying Navigational Transformations in Hypermedia . A temporal logic framework
In this extended abstract we present a temporal logic formalism for specifying navigational transformations in hypermedia applications. Using temporal logic it is possible to specify both the static and dynamic aspects of the navigational structure of such applications. We present our framework in the context of the Object-Oriented Hypermedia Design Methodology (OOHDM) though it can be applied ...
متن کاملNavigation Modeling in Hypermedia Applications
A distinguishing feature of hypermedia applications is the possibility of navigational access by the user. Although this type of access can be an advantage, there many problems associated with it, for example user disorientation ("lost in hyperspace"). This paper presents the concept of navigational context, which is used to design the navigation structure of a hypermedia application. Navigatio...
متن کاملWeb Usability Patterns
During the last four years we have been developing hypermedia applications (in CDROM and in the Web) using the Object-Oriented Hypermedia Design Method (OOHDM). OOHDM explicitly separates navigation from user interface design; this means that design decisions related with the navigational topology of the application are (in a broader sense) independent respect to those regarding interface issue...
متن کاملPartitioning the Navigational Model: A Component-Driven Approach
This paper proposes using a Component Approach to model navigation in a hypertext application. It proposes Navigational Semantic Units (NSUs), which are component-oriented units that describe some meaning of navigation from the user’s perspective. The NSUs are an abstraction of a navigational model and are the basis for a methodology to design hypermedia applications based on the Model View Con...
